Michelle has grown considerably, both personally and professionally, since joining VGS Vocational Rehabilitation programming. Naturally kindhearted and determined, she has faced her challenges with both grace and strength. Michelle has learned to advocate for herself and take ownership of her goals. She consistently reminds her team of her mantra “I am the pilot of my own destiny.”

Having a clear vision for her future, Michelle recently asked for a change in her job responsibilities to better align with her long-term goal of working in a daycare or hospital. The VGS staff took Michelle’s request seriously, and she now works closely beside Vanita, a VGS Rehabilitation Specialist, assisting in Adult Day Service programs. Michelle is grateful for Vanita’s guidance and the ease of their conversations. Every day, she gets hands-on experience in care, learns something new and makes meaningful contributions all with the support of a trusted professional and personal champion.

Michelle has built incredible friendships during her time at VGS. She and Charlie are especially close, and their teamwork is a joy to witness and a picture-perfect example of a truly supportive work environment.

Michelle says that working at VGS “feels good because the staff makes her feel like family and are supportive every day.” Her goal is to work in the community, and both she, her teammates, and the VGS staff that support her know that she will reach that goal.
