When Lisa first joined the VGS she was very quiet and withdrawn. The Team at our Southwest Cleveland location took the time to get to know her and ease her into her new job and surroundings. Lisa began to open up and now she is always socializing with everyone around her. She’s built new friendships, discovered an immense sense of humor, and continues to grow every day.
Lisa has strengthened her work skills and truly shines when participating in music therapy, community outings, holiday celebrations, and the VGS annual field days. Her journey from her first days at VGS to today has been incredible to witness, and her enthusiasm brings so much joy to those around her.
Staff assist Lisa daily with a variety of her needs. We help her with her hair, clothing, personal care, and provide her with nutritious meals. Lisa enjoys feeling like a “pretty lady,” as she often tells us – moments like these truly capture that our work is about more than skills building, but also building confidence and connection.
Lisa recently had a difficult transition in housing, in order for her to get to a safe and nurturing space, our team encouraged her to advocate for herself. Lisa began advocating for a better, more stable life herself – her voice was heard and she is now surrounded by familiar faces and friends in a comfortable environment.
VGS meets our participants where they are, takes the time to know them as individuals, and works with them to make sure their needs are met and goals are realized. We are incredibly proud of Lisa and consider ourselves so lucky to know and support her.
